Dr. James Brewer on NeuroQuant

Dr. Brewer is the Chief Medical Advisor for CorTechs Labs and was the first physician to incorporate NeuroQuant® into clinical practice. He assisted in the design of the NeuroQuant reports and in the studies that led to NeuroQuant’s FDA clearance in 2006.

In 2004, he joined the faculty of the University of California, San Diego, where he has a joint appointment in Radiology and Neurosciences. Dr. Brewer sees patients at the University of California, San Diego and the Veterans Affairs Hospital in La Jolla.

MR Image Standardization: Quality, Consistency and Spatial Integrity

Less than perfect positioning
Typically, in every MRI scan, the patient’s head and therefore the brain, is aligned slightly differently. This is primarily dependent on patient positioning, including variability of head rotation and tilt. Manual segmentation of MR images is highly reliant on accurate positioning of the patient’s head and deviations from cardinal alignment increases the observer-based variability, thereby reducing segmentation accuracy.

This is especially concerning when evaluating changes in a follow-up scan, making comparisons to baseline less precise even in side-by-side comparisons.

Multi-timepoint NeuroQuant Report

Creating a multi-timepoint NeuroQuant report is easy! For patients that have been scanned previously and have existing NeuroQuant reports in PACS, simply send or upload a previous report to NeuroQuant – the multi-timepoint report will then be generated and show trajectory over time for that patient when a new scan is processed. If the previous scan is still on the NeuroQuant system there is no need to upload anything in advance – the multi-timepoint report will be created automatically when a follow-up scan is processed.
